Slow down through the seasons - mindful walking and painting experience

Slow Down & Reconnect - Sensory Nature Walks & Painting Experiences

Nunnington, Howardian Hills, North Yorkshire, England

What you'll do

I'm so very excited to offer these new, nature-based, creative experiences. These will be perfect if you wish to slow down, take time for you and reconnect with nature - in a different, yet magical way.

You'll be based in the pretty village of Nunnington in the Howardian Hills for these series of workshops. Each session will begin with a sensory walk to reconnect with the season and surroundings. Slowing the breath down and taking your time, you'll begin to find yourself again. While your awareness of colour, sound, smell, taste and touch become finely tuned as you move more into the present moment.

Perfect to then move onto an intuitive painting session!

Over a cuppa and cake indoors, you'll learn some basic watercolour techniques to get you started.  Expertly guided by Ione, you'll explore where the colours take you, while letting go of what you think it 'should' look like. The painting may be a reflection of your walk, or maybe something else. It is entirely up to you.

Worried you 'can't paint'? In our eyes, there is no such thing. I see it as 'playing with paint'. You can be a complete beginner and not able to draw. Or you could be a seasoned artist, but be prepared to unlearn what you know so you can open up to the magic and go with the flow of colour and water.

I truly think this is going to be a wonderful experience - whether you come to one or all of the sessions.  A huge bonus will be how you'll feel reconnected, refreshed and rejuvenated from giving yourself some precious time away.

Ione creates vibrant, atmospheric paintings. Using experimental techniques to make rich textures – such as wax resist, textiles and plants - Ione’s work explores themes of landscape and the natural world. Many years of international travel as a teacher (France, the Middle East, Turkey, Nepal) sharpened her perceptions about how landscape shapes lives and deepened her relationship with colour.  She works out of her studio in Nunnington, close to National Trust's Nunnington Hall.

Where you'll be

Located under an hour away from York in the heart of the Howardian Hills, you'll find Nunnington village. Picture-postcard pretty, it boasts a national trust property, artists studios with onsite cafe and is 3 miles away from two Michelin starred restaurants (at Harome).

We will meet at Nunnington village hall and meander our way by the river, across fields and may be up a gentle incline to the ridge. From here the views over the surrounding countryside are stunning. But regardless where we go on our walk, it's incredibly beautiful, peaceful and well worth staying longer if you can.

See the 'Why not Stay Longer..?' section above for more details.
